Group Coaching

Group coaching is a powerful way for teams to maximize their collective strengths, address challenging group dynamics, and enhance overall communication. Each session is tailored to align with organizational objectives while fostering open, honest dialogue that leads to actionable outcomes.

Group Coaching Program

Our group coaching program is specifically designed to help teams overcome communication barriers and other obstacles by developing strategies for more collaborative work. Grounded in emotional intelligence (EI), the program identifies each team member’s EI strengths and growth areas, highlighting how these competencies can either support or hinder group effectiveness.

Every coaching program includes an EI assessment using the Mayer-Salovey-Caruso Emotional Intelligence Test (MSCEIT2), a leading measure of emotional intelligence. This web-based assessment consists of a series of tasks designed to evaluate how individuals perceive, use, understand, and manage emotions. All results remain strictly confidential and are only shared between participants and their EI coach.

We encourage participants to engage with the assessment honestly and accurately to gain the most benefit from their development journey. Everyone receives a detailed report interpreting their EI results from a leadership perspective, which serves as the foundation for the coaching process.

Program Overview

Building on each participant’s EI strengths and identifying development opportunities, this program explores how emotional intelligence competencies influence team dynamics. While every program is fully customizable to your organization’s unique needs, we generally recommend six sessions.

Below is an outline of our suggested approach:

  • In a private session, each participant reviews their MSCEIT2 assessment results. Together with their coach, they examine how each EI competency appears in the workplace and its overall impact.

By the end of this session, participants will have a clear understanding of their personal strengths, areas for improvement, and how these traits factor into group interactions.

    Learning Objectives

    • Understand emotional intelligence and why it is critical to leadership.
    • Explore how MSCEIT2 evaluates perception, usage, understanding, and management of emotions.
    • Analyze leadership capabilities, strengths, and development areas.
    • Examine how EI competencies affect communication, relationships, leadership, team performance, and productivity.
    • Identify possible root causes for lower EI competencies.

  • Session two is the first group meeting. By this stage, each participant will have completed their MSCEIT2 assessment and individual debrief. The group then identifies its core challenges, sets objectives for the coaching process, clarifies why EI coaching is necessary, and discusses how each member can support (rather than hinder) progress.

Participants also share their EI strengths, personal motivators, core values, and what they look for in an ideal teammate. Together, the group creates a team success agreement that covers:

    • Vision: Where are we going?
    • Mission: Why are we going there?
    • Values: How will we get there?
    • Goals: What do we need to accomplish to achieve our vision?
    • Expectations: What have we collectively agreed upon?

    Learning Objectives

    • Pinpoint the key issues facing the group and clarify individual expectations.
    • Examine each member’s strengths and growth areas, along with the group’s overall needs.
    • Establish a framework for how the team will improve and the steps required to succeed.

  • Throughout these three sessions, the group transitions from recognizing problems (session two) to implementing solutions (session six). The focus is on fostering open communication, engaging in targeted activities, and working collaboratively to fulfill the commitments set during goal alignment.

    Learning Objectives

    • Strengthen EI competencies that may be holding participants back in their roles.
    • Leverage personal EI strengths to become more effective team members.
    • Appreciate the importance of balancing one’s emotional intelligence.
    • Acquire practical tools for improving crucial EI skills.
    • Understand how the “dark side” of emotional intelligence can influence daily interactions.

  • This final session encourages participants to assess the progress they have made and envision long-term success beyond the coaching program. The group identifies potential leadership derailers and outlines strategies for addressing future challenges.

By this stage, participants should have a solid grasp of their emotional intelligence strengths and a clearer roadmap for ongoing development. They will also understand what is needed to achieve both personal and professional goals and the significance of aligning individual growth with team and organizational objectives.

Learning Objectives

• Recognize the ongoing importance of learning and its role in influential leadership.

• Investigate how EI aligns with strategic organizational goals and impacts key stakeholders.

• Evaluate personal development plans, celebrate successes, and determine next steps for continuous growth.

Delivery Format

Our group coaching programs can be delivered virtually, in-person (locally), or through a combination of both. We recommend allotting approximately one hour for each session to give the coachee and coach ample time to explore the material in depth.

  • If you prefer face-to-face interaction, we offer in-person coaching sessions. Our emotional intelligence coaches are happy to meet you at your office or even at your offsite location. Please contact us for more information.

  • We provide virtual coaching sessions globally, typically conducted via video conference to foster valuable face-to-face engagement. Phone sessions are also available for those who prefer a different mode of communication.
